Thanks to Dr Clare Jackson and Dr. Richard Serjeantson of the University of Cambridge for allowing me to link to the excellent website, including a very full bibliography, for their course on Utopian Writing 1516-1798.

Creating a comparative history is daunting and exhilarating in equal measure. I am also very grateful for the generous and imaginative suggestions of reading materials from my colleagues in the department of History at York: Henrice Altink, Richard Bessel, Simon Ditchfield, Mary Garrison, Mark Roodhouse and Barbara Schmucki
